WHAT READERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE ART OF MURDER

'Had me turning the pages' -- ***** Reader review

'Loved it' -- ***** Reader review

THE MOST FAMOUS KILLER IN HISTORY HAS A DISCIPLE - IN 21ST-CENTURY LONDON...

In all his years on the force, Detective Chief Inspector Pendragon had never seen a corpse like this one. After the initial horror, he recognised the reference to the surrealist painter, Magritte. But that made the crime even more sickening - accomplished, as it had been, with a ferocity which placed it in another league from common or garden murder.

It brought to mind the crimes committed in in the Whitechapel area of London in the 1880s by a person who remains unidentified to this day: a series of sadistic murders of local prostitutes, which involved elaborate mutilation of the victims' bodies.

Although the contemporary crimes are not directed exclusively at female targets, there is grotesque similarity in the mindset of the two perpetrators - divided, as they are, by more than a century.

But Pendragon is determined that his pathologically brilliant killer will not escape detection.

Reviews

McNab's Nick Stone is the toughest of the tough, operating in a world of violent political espionage and most blood-letting, explosive of special ops... A rampaging book with a pace and scope that will keep you glued to the end

—— City AM

Andy McNab is on pulsating form with his 13th Nick Stone thriller

—— Daily Express

McNab's Army experience shines through this high-octane adventure

—— Daily Express

Another stunner... The pace of the narrative and the twists of the storyline make for compulsive and vastly entertaining reading

—— Wilbur Smith

Irresistible. Smart and fast paced, with everything you want from an international spy thriller

—— Chelsea Cain, author of Heartsick

'...bleak and gritty, but thoroughly believable'

—— Kirkus Review

'A first-rate geopolitical yarn... Fesperman combines his strong eye for detail with bleak film-noir cynicism'

—— Entertainment Weekly

'The violence level is high, and rendered so convincingly that at times I felt queasy. Fortunately for introspective readers, the violence is leavened by searing insights into human nature... I knew I could not sleep until finishing it'

—— The Baltimore Sun

'...a convincing, accurate thriller...this book is worth reading if only for the passage where the hero, Skelly, glimpses Osama Bin Laden at a public hanging; the scene both convinces and frightens'

—— The Economist

Patterson boils a scene down to the single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. It's what fires off the movie projector in the reader's mind.

—— MICHAEL CONNELLY

Patterson knows where our deepest fears are buried... there's no stopping his imagination.

—— NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW

Patterson is in a class by himself.

—— VANITY FAIR

[Patterson's] books don't pussyfoot around when it comes to the villains. These are bad, bad people ... with a lot of intrigue in high places.
