A funny and sad story, told completely in verse.
Malorie Blackman is acknowledged as one of today's most imaginative and convincing writers
—— Book TrustOne of the most original and moving books of the year . . . an absolutely remarkable book
—— Daily MailInspired writing . . . it flows like melted butter and glistens as it goes . . . Blackman knows her verse forms and uses them to brilliant effect
—— GuardianIt is funny and poignant and Blackman's use of language is wonderfully economic. This is a masterpiece of writing and a book for all ages
—— TESIt soon develops into a cautionary tale about the way that both a friendship and a child's originality is destroyed by peer pressure. What makes it even more unusual is that it is told out of the mind of the boy who brought about the destruction. Blackman threads humour into the tragedy and (just) succeeds in giving us something to hope for
—— IndependentHats off to Malorie Blackman . . . Sheer poetry
—— Oxford TimesThe perfect story to perhaps help you navigate the tricky parts of those teenage years
—— BookTrustEvocative and touching . . . In this complex, memorable novel, Wolk explores themes of social responsibility, modern versus traditional medicine, biological versus chosen family and more
—— BookpageThe Accidental Diary of B.U.G. is immense fun and is the first book I have read in a single sitting in a long time! It's warm, funny and has the best joke involving childbirth that you could put into a children's book!
A brilliant, hilarious and heartwarming book! I'm pretty sure if I'd read this as a child it wouldn't have taken me quite so long to understand and accept my own queer identity. Amazing for normalising same-sex parenting and adoption, completely laugh-out-loud funny and a feast for the eyes with lots of fun and engaging doodles. I loved it!
