Comet in Moominland

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Comet in Moominland by Tove Jansson, read by Hugh Dennis.

If you haven't met a Moomin yet, you're in for the most magical fun!

A comet is speeding towards Earth and nobody knows what to do!

Will it destroy everything and everyone? Moomintroll decides to find out. So, with Sniff, he sets out on an expedition to ask the Professor if a comet is really on its way to destroy the Earth. On their journey they meet some interesting people - such as Snufkin the super tramp, and the Hemulen who rescuesthem from an underground tunnel - and have narrow escapes from such menaces as crocodiles and giant lizards. And on their way back Moomintroll meets the beautiful Snork Maiden and is a changed Moomin for ever after. But what about the comet - and is the World Wiped Out?...

Reviews

They seem to grow in wisdom and delight every time I read them...a perfect marriage of word and picture

—— Philip Pullman

I have long been a passionate Moomin appreciator - it's not just Tove Jansson's wonderfully strange fairytale world that so appeals but also her beautiful line work and exquisite sense of design

—— Lauren Child

The Jack Stalwart books have been a great weapon in the bookseller's armoury for hooking reluctant readers. Now re-launched, they are set to reach a much wider audience of young readers who want a piece of the secret-agent action

—— Sarah Moore , Publishing News

Gayle Forman writes in beautiful, elegant prose that is so saturated with emotion it can't fail to give you the occasional lump in your throat

—— Sugarscape

Absolutely captivating . . . filled with such heartbreak and sadness but also the same beauty and hope that stole my heart with If I Stay

—— Fluttering Butterflies

Where She Went is utterly breathtaking

—— The Crooked Shelf

Brims with elegant prose, enchantment, comedy and mischief . . . It's the perfect gift but also a book to squirrel away for yourself and enjoy on a rainy afternoon

—— Independent

Smartly written, the tales can be enjoyed afresh, imbued with a love of words that will no doubt excite and delight your child. The new hardback collection is printed in large type so should be a good first read. It would also make a lovely gift

—— Junior

Each of the stories in this anthology is a magic bean: a wondrous take that will capture your imagination. Lovingly crafted by some of the finest authors and illustrators in the business . . . these 'magic beans' will delight and thoroughly entertain

—— Anne Whelton , Maternity Magazine

All the stories give a fresh and immediate version of the often cruel but funny originals where the darkest sides of human nature are contrasted against innocent honesty; magic intervening first on one side, then the other, until virtue triumphs. Skilful writing from modern storytellers

—— Tina Massey , Carousel

A bright cover and good sized print are attractive but the irresistible factor is the list of 14 authors . . . Amazing, brilliant and a comparative bargain

—— The School Librarian

Stephens' top-notch time-travel thriller has a quirky mixed bag of heroes and villains, a clever and compelling plotline and graphic action sequences that just cry out for the big screen treatment

—— Pam Norfolk , Lytham St Annes Express

A wonderful story you can easily lose yourself in

—— Notes of Life

First-rate fantasy

—— Armadillo
