It isn't often you receive a letter from the dead.

When Vianne Rocher receives a letter from beyond the grave, she allows the wind to blow her back to the village in south-west France where, eight years ago, she opened up a chocolate shop. But Lansquenet is different now: women veiled in black, the scent of spices and peppermint tea, and, on the bank of the river Tannes, facing the church: a minaret.

Nor is it only the incomers from North Africa that have brought change. Father Reynaud, Vianne's erstwhile adversary, is disgraced and under threat.

Could it be that Vianne is the only one who can save him now?

Reviews

Vianne - unconventional, good-hearted, slightly magical - blows in like a refreshing breeze, forcing people to question their prejudices. A delight

—— The Times

Expertly crafted, typically mouthwatering

—— Daily Mail

A delightful jumble of the sensuous sights, sounds and smells the author describes so well

—— Glamour

Her characteristic love affair with texture – scents, smells and sounds – immerses the reader in a bath of seductive imagery in a brave and grippingly confected story

—— The Sunday Times

Prepare to be transported by Joanne Harris as she revisits the characters and setting of her first bestseller, Chocolat...Deftly tackling the subject of religious intolerance, this bewitching novel stirs the senses

—— Good Housekeeping (Book of the Month)

A wide-ranging, powerful and very readable novel. I loved it

—— Red

Like Chocolat, this book is a feast for the senses. Every page of the book is steeped in scents, colours and tastes, without ever tipping into the pretentious or showy. The writing is seductive and engaging throughout; and the magic, too, is intrinsic without ever being soppy or embarrassing. What is magic (or religion), after all, if not an ability to understand the human heart? Peaches for Monsieur le Curé is a wonderful return to form for Harris

—— Literary Review

Fasting and feasting, magic and mysticism are once again at the heart of this author's storytelling sorcery

—— The Lady

Absorbing and atmospheric...Joanne bravely tackles religious differences head-on but very sensitively. It's expressive, rich, vibrant and even shocking in parts

—— Heat Magazine

Exotic, thought-provoking and wonderfully told

—— Woman & Home

An enchanting read, ripe for summer picking

—— France Magazine

What Joanne Harris has done with this brilliant novel is to define in microcosm the religious problems that concern the world - terrorism, race riots, honour killings, the sexual grooming of teenagers - and bring them to life in a community where everyone knows each other...she provides an indictment of prejudice that is exceptionally powerful.

—— Country Life

Warm-hearted and funny

—— Sunday Mirror

Ridgway is a splendid writer . . . The River of No Return is the kind of book that is meant to be read under the covers with a flashlight, or, in the pale grown-up substitution, staying up much later than you know is good for you.

—— Chicago Reader

In her stellar debut, Ridgway manages the permutations of the time-travel trope with originality and aplomb.

—— Booklist

A highly entertaining romp; [Ridgway's] historical details are accurate, and the characters are believable. Fans of Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series should enjoy this time-traveling romantic adventure, which may also attract readers who like historical fiction with a twist.

—— Library Journal

A compelling race through time in a historical world turned upside down-the Regency as you've never seen it before. Take one nobleman and one gently born lady; add time travel, intrigue, a vast conspiracy, and a wicked way with words; shake; and serve.

—— Lauren Willig, author of The Pink Carnation series

While on its shining surface The River of No Return is a fantastical time traveling page turner, it is also a novel that takes on complex issues of culture and nationalism and how or memories form us. And it is a riveting love story to boot. Bee Ridgway is a treasure and her debut is a triumph.

—— Jennifer Gilmore, author of Golden Country and Something Red

The River of No Return is an innovative and sophisticated first novel. At the heart of this entertaining story--set primarily and convincingly in Regency-era England--is a serious and timely question: what does it mean to be on the winning side of history?

—— William Galperin, Professor of English, Rutgers University, and author of The Historical Austen

The only thing more fun than reading this book would be to actually travel through time yourself. Erudite and beautifully crafted, The River of No Return is at the same time a lush, riotous fantasy. Ridgway's ingenuity and charm are apparently without limit.

—— Heather Love, R. Jean Brownlee associate professor in the humanities, University of Pennsylvania, and author of Feeling Backward

Fielding’s comedic talent remains undimmed.

—— Nicola Shulman , Mail on Sunday

There is poignancy as well as humour.

—— Eleanor Mills , Sunday Times

—— Jenna Bush Hager , Today

Fresh, frantic and very funny.

—— Fanny Blake , Woman & Home

Long-awaited.

—— Reader's Digest

Bridget is back! ... The third book in the series does not disappoint, taking the reader on a whirlwind tour of Bridget's life as a 50-something, and all the highs, lows, tears and laughter that you'd expect.

—— The Bristol Magazine

What remains unchanged – and addictive – is its diary format.

—— The Lady

Life may have changed dramatically for Bridget, but you can still prepare to laugh and cry at Helen Fielding’s latest novel.

—— No 1 Magazine

Fans of the original books have not been, and will not be, disappointed.

—— Chris White, fiction buyer for Waterstones , UK Press Syndication

Tender, touching and often hilarious – a welcome return.

—— Sara Lawrence , Daily Mail

Bridget is as hopeless, loveable and funny as ever.

—— Stylist

An uproariously funny novel of modern life, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the triumphant return of our favourite Everywoman.

—— UK Press Syndication

Laugh-out-loud funny, as well as punctuated by moments of genuine sadness, which are proportionately balanced throughout the story.

—— Louise Denyer , Suffolk Magazine

Timely, tender, touching, witty, wise and bloody hilarious

—— UK Press Syndication

Hilariously written

—— Emma Lawton , University of Nottingham Impact

This book is an innocent pleasure, and made me laugh a lot

—— Naomi James , Church Times
