The Beach Dogs

'Now!' he snapped urgently. 'Down to the boat. As soon as you hear the engine start, jump in and get out of sight!'

Zoe and Bertram have embarked on the most amazing adventure of their lives. Egged on by the lively young mongrel Jack, they are escaping heir dull, shorebound lives and are on course for the remote island of Clany.

But what sort of life can the stowaways expect? Winter is coming, and food and drink will be hard to find on the island.

Reviews

A dramatic story with plenty of incident

—— Junior Bookshelf

It’s a simple but lovely story . . . It’s also a lovely lesson on how to be a good friend, different people liking different things, not always seeing the worst in people and giving people the benefit of the doubt

—— Cheryl Pasquier , Madhouse Family Reviews

With minimalist art, muted colors, engaging characters and a dynamic and varied layout of art and text, Odd Dog presents a ridiculous story that will appeal to dog lovers everywhere — as well as fans of subversive art in the style of Jon Klassen

—— Anita Silvey , The New York Times

This simple story about sharing and friendship is transformed by Claudia Boldt's light-hearted, witty illustrations which bring her quirky characters to life. Stylishly designed spreads in a palette of ice-cream colours convey a nostalgic, retro feel, but ultimately it is Boldt's surreal sense of humour which will make this book irresistible to young readers

—— Booktrust

Anthony Browne has an extraordinary knack of turning a story into so much more . . . Once again, the author extends the boundaries of the picture book with this rich and thought-provoking story

—— Anne Faundez , Carousel

Me and You is a thought provoking, post-modern version on the well-loved fairytale . . . The most
rewarding of picture books

—— The Bookseller

It's the Goldilocks tale from a fresh perspective, but the more you dig, the more Me and You will reveal. It's an utterly gorgeous picture book that works on so so so many levels

—— The Bookbag

This is a wonderful re-telling by Anthony Browne of the Goldilocks fairy tale, which Browne gives a modern setting and a contemporary twist . . . The story is beautifully presented with the Bear family's world drawn in bright colours while 'Goldilocks' inhabits a bleak inner city landscape. The ending turns our usual convictions on their head, however, as we are shown it is the grey city world that has the warmth of a real home

—— Reading Zone

The merging of the fairytale/streetscape ending is a masterstroke

—— Irish examiner

A thought provoking new take on the traditional story of Goldilocks . . . Anthony Browne leaves readers lots to think about

—— Julia Eccleshare , Lovereading4Kids.co.uk

Me and You is a wonderful example of the power of illustrations and how hey can play as important a role as words

—— Nursery Education

Anthony Browne offers a new perspective on an old tale

—— Jane Doonan , School Library Association
